Why Time Slows Down When You Move Fast

Special relativity isn’t just a theory—it’s something that shows up in particle accelerators and GPS satellites every day. When something moves close to the speed of light, time for that object runs slower relative to us. This isn’t a trick of perception; it’s built into the geometry of spacetime.

Einstein linked space and time into a single fabric. The faster you go through space, the slower you go through time. Muons created in the upper atmosphere would normally decay before reaching the ground, but because they’re moving so fast, their clocks tick more slowly and many of them make it to Earth. Science fiction has nothing on this.
